Mergers and acquisitions are always interesting in the tech industry. It hints at the direction that the now parent company is leaning toward in their operations. Last week, Salesforce, one of the biggest names in the CRM industry, acquired Tableau, a data visualization company. This is no news to people who have been following Salesforce’s mergers and acquisitions over the years.
About three years ago, it famously invested a large sum of money over a number of companies, as reported by TechCrunch. Even then, Salesforce was supposedly eyeing Tableau.
Marc Benioff, the chairman and co-CEO of Salesforce, gave a statement about the acquisition, in which he said, “We are bringing together the world’s #1 CRM with the #1 analytics platform. Tableau helps people see and understand data and Salesforce helps people engage and understand customers. It’s truly the best of both worlds for our customers – bringing together two critical platforms that every customer needs to understand their world. I’m thrilled to welcome Adam and his team to Salesforce.”
Tableau’s features and tools only make Salesforce better. It is already a leading CRM company with its smart features. A data visualization tool helps give the CRM users deeper insights into their data.
In an email to his employees, Adam Selipsky, the CEO of Tableau had this to say, “They have leading capabilities across many CRM areas including sales, marketing, service, application integration, AI for analytics and more. They have a vast number of field personnel selling to and servicing customers. They have incredible reach into the fabric of so many customers, all of whom need rich analytics capabilities and visual interfaces.”
Salesforce will be turning Tableau’s Seattle headquarters into their second headquarters, making a move directly on the home turf of competing CRM owner, Microsoft.
