2. Install Flutter & Dart plugins

  • Open Android Studio > Preferences > Plugins. (If you use a Windows device, try File > Settings > Plugins).
  • Open plugin preferences and browse through the repositories before you click on ‘Install’ to install them.
  • When the system prompts you to seek permission, tap on ‘Yes’.
  • Once the plugin is installed, tap on restart.

3. Create a Flutter project

  • Choose the Flutter application and then tap on ‘Start a new Flutter project’.
  • On the following screen, you will need to configure the new Flutter application by providing necessary details like Project name, Flutter SDK path, project location, description, etc.
  • Once done, tap o ‘Next’ and finish creating the project.
  • Now, you should be able to create a new project in Flutter by navigating to File > New > New Flutter Project.

4. Run Flutter Doctor

  • First, open the terminal in Android Studio by pressing ALt+F12 and write the Flutter Doctor command. It will help you diagnose if the environment is set up appropriately.
  • Next, run a test build on Android or iOS by connecting with the device via a USB or by creating a virtual device.

5. Start Coding

You have already created a project for your Flutter application. Now, all you have to do is edit the lib/main.dart section. You can either start writing code here directly or replace the existing code with the desired piece of code.

6. Use external packages

You can use external packages to improve your Flutter app’s functionalities. You can find many open-source packages at When you type, Android Studio will auto-suggest packages that you can import.
